North Carolina Republican Lawmakers Manipulated
Congressional District Maps to Send Far More Republicans to
Washington

Voters are split roughly
50–50 statewide.
Odd distict shapes are often
a sign of gerrymandering.
Republicans outnumber
Democrats 2.5 to 1.
"The motivation behind this redraw is simple and singular.
Draw a new map that will bring an additional Republican seat
to the North Carolina congressional delegation."

Republican lawmakers project that the new map will give them 11 of 14 U.S. House seats after the 2026 election.
Overwhelming Democratic voter turnout will be especially important in Congressional Districts that are not 2, 4, or 12. Democrats were heavily packed into those three districts so that the remaining districts would have fewer Democratic voters. The rest of the map was drawn to strongly favor Republicans. High turnout is the key to breaking that built-in advantage and winning these districts.
